Brianne and Aaron were married in Sherwood, Wisconsin at the small but beautiful St. John Sacred Heart Catholic Church. After their ceremony they had an ice cream social with homemade ice cream.

As always the floral from Phase2 was beautiful and the reception at the Bridgewood Resort in Neenah was seamless.

Last month I photographed this lively family from Nebraska. They planned a Wisconsin vacation and wanted a professional photographer to document the trip. They commissioned me to do a family session on the beach... look at the gorgeous shots we got!

My favorite thing about photographing families is getting to work with the kids and the individual family combos. I do just a few with everyone looking at the camera and then I focus on the personalities, milestones or relationships that are relevant for each person.

Green Bay Engagement | Jenna and Brett

Jenna and Brett's engagement session was the first e-shoot for the 2012 wedding season. This super sweet couple chose the Green Bay Botanical Gardens for the first portion of the shoot and the Meyer Theatre for the second.

Their wedding will be held at Old St. Joe's on the St. Nobert Campus. I just love weddings at St. Norbert... the church is gorgeous and the campus is a great place to walk around for the post-ceremony photo session. Their reception is also at another favorite of mine, Thornberry Creek Golf Course. You can beat the light and overall setting they provide for their wedding receptions.

Jenna and Brett are not only planning for a wedding, but planning on becoming homeowners soon. I wish them the best of luck finding the perfect place!

Neenah Engagement | Beth and Troy

I can't wait to see Beth and Troy get married in October. I've actually known Beth before I started my photography business more than 7 years ago when I taught dance classes. Since then Beth has been awarded top honors for the dance team she coaches at Little Chute High School - these girls just brought home 1st place!!!

As for Troy... I am enamored with the love an affection he shows Beth. You can really tell that he loves every part of her and brings out her very best side.

Jenny & Kory - Winter Wedding in Wisconsin

Jennifer and Kory are a super cool couple. You might remember their super romantic coffee shop engagement session. They tied the knot the second week of March on a bright and breezy cold day.

It was an honor to have photographed both the son (Andy) and daughter (Jenny) of the Lauer family. When I shoot multiple weddings in a family it is so special to see the parents and even the grandparents again.... and even new little babies! Congrats to Andy and Teresa on their second little miracle.

Now on to my wedding day favs....

Jenny got the idea of having a special fragrance for the wedding from her maid of honor. I just totally love this idea and recommend it to every bride. Choose a special perfume and wear it on your wedding day, then every time you wear the scent you will instantly be reminded of your wedding and all the feelings and emotions you experienced that day.

The freezing wind and snow covered ground didn't hinder the ability to get beautiful and heart warming photographs.

I just LOVE this groom's cake - incorporating the Kory's love of camping and Van Halen....

I think it is so neat when a DJ invites daughters and fathers and sons and mothers out on the dance floor during the dance. I love walking around on the dance floor with my camera and photographing all the different parent child relationships celebrating along with the bride and groom.

Dara and Tony - Winter Wedding in Wisconsin

This year is very special! I had three weddings in three weeks all in cold and snowy weather. Usually when a bride plans her wedding in Wisconsin they usually shy away from months like February and March. The weather can be such a toss-up. It can be 60 degrees and sunny one day and snow 8.5" the next.

Dara and Tony were married the first weekend of March in a Combined Locks Catholic Ceremony. Their wedding resembled their fun and laid back personalities.

Here are some of my favorites from the day:

The reception was held at the Bridgewood Resort in Neenah. This little guy totally stole the show! He was only 5 or 6 but had the moves of a seasoned entertainer.

Holden | Neenah Baby Photographer

I've mentioned in the past that I don't really do infant or children's photography. But this little cutie and his mamma are too cute to pass up... Little Holden was sooo cute and sooo good I could photograph him all day every day.

Winter wonderful wedding! | Milwaukee Wedding Photographer

I remember talking to Jane on the phone just a few months ago when she and Patrick were in the midst of wedding planning. It's pretty cool when a couple will select their wedding date based on my availability. She was hoping for a wintery snow-filled day... if it didn't happen we would do an "Ever After" session on another day with snow in the forecast. Luckily for Jane and Pat, the forecast for February 26 included the beautiful white confetti they dreamed about.

The couple did a "first look" on the rooftop deck of the Hotel Metro. The moments Jane and Patrick shared in privacy were captured in a beautiful even light. What a way to start their wedding day!

This group loves to play trivia at the Brat House. Part of this bunch is an Ardent 2009 bride and groom who also is the Milwaukee Quizmaster. I can't wait to head down and play some trivia with you guys!

Jane is a wedding invitation designer and co-owner of 2Hearts1Design. She designed so many amazing things for their wedding... including custom hankies, a pin-up board guest book, a custom cupcake and Jimmie Square stand and a totally amazing folding wedding program.

Coverage ended that evening in the midnight hour at The Landmark Lanes. It was so cute to see everyone in their wedding best hitting the lanes for the midnight bowl.

What a way to kick off 2011! Jane and Patrick, I am so honored to be present on your day with camera in hand. I wish you as much love as snowflakes that fell from the sky that day. Congratulations!

We are kicking off our 2011 wedding season this weekend. I have three weddings in a row this winter and I am so excited to shoot out in the fresh snow! (or whatever Mother Nature decides to throw at me!)

Jenny and Kory had a warm and heartfelt break from their busy lives during our engagement session downtown Appleton last fall. We warmed up with coffee at the Harmony Café - these two have a passion for coffee and it was fun to incorporate it in a way that was true to them.

Allison and Kurtis' wedding day for me was filled with so many emotions. Not only was I the hired photographer for the day, but I was also an honorary bridesmaid. Allison is my very close cousin and her and her sisters are the closest thing I had to a sister while growing up.

Last week I had the chance to photograph my kiddos. Emerie turned 6 months and Drew turned 4 years in September. They did surprisingly well - Drew wore what I set out for him and Emerson didn't cry too much. It is so hard to photograph your own kids. First off, you have to hide your face behind the camera... babies and kids like to see their mommy - so I play a lot of Peek-a-Boo. Secondly, there is a huge standard that you need to live up to... I'm pretty hard on myself to get things to be perfect.

I'm so happy with the images. Here are a few that I thought would brighten your day.

The Upper Penninsula's beautiful shore was the perfect backdrop for Molly and Ashley's wedding.

Their reception hall was beautifully decorated and showcased a large wall portrait of from their engagement session. If you can see, the portrait was taken at the Booth St. stairs with the Milwaukee skyline in the background. Being that "Booth" is the couple's last name and that they are in love with the city, the location and image is a perfect representation of who they are as a couple.

We hit all the cool spots near Millennium Park in Chicago - so much fun! This was the first time I had met Shannon and Kenny in person. They booked me over a year ago over the phone - living out of state and being super busy didn't allow for an in-person meeting.

I am super excited for their wedding this weekend. Kenny is from Ireland and I'm excited to meet his family, see their traditions and most of all hear his fabulous Irish accent. Shannon has a great sense of style and is in school finishing her Graphic Design degree. The Chicago couple is getting married back home in Wisconsin on Saturday, just in time for peak fall colors.

Molly and Ash decided to do a "first look" portrait session before their Upper Peninsula ceremony. The first time a groom sees the bride should be a special moment. During a "first look" we set up a moment surrounded by a lovely backdrop and the bride and groom get to experience this special moment on their own time.

As you can see below, Molly and Ash had time to talk, twirl and embrace all before they walked down the aisle. I really love doing a first look because it allows for the couple to be more at ease at the actual ceremony. The transition between ceremony and cocktail hour is a bit more seamless since we are not running away to another location for photos.

I know by now this is old news... but I really wanted to share some final images of our crazy week. The night security left we were a bit sad... Drew and Andy made friends with our night watchman named Carl. A guy from CA who's dream is to start a Boys Home - Carl we wish you the best of luck with you endeavor.

Things are much quieter around here. I'd say back to normal. The residents that had damage to their property already have new lawns or seed. The family seems to be enjoying their home... although they'll need to keep their blinds shut until the show airs in October. The traffic is low... maybe I run into one slow driving rubber-necker on the way down the street.

We are happy and proud to have been part of this event. I have more shots... but will probably wait to post any until after the air-date...

If you lived on the block you got a special tag to wear and one for your vehicle. Leaving home was not easy for the residents in the 700 block of Elm Street. Not only were they barricaded in, but they also had to deal with the crowds creeping on their private property, lights blaring at night, 24 hours of zooming golf cars and the sounds of constant construction.

Volunteers had to sign in at Shattuck Middle School. This friendly woman from Community First organized all the volunteer's contracts.

These weary volunteers just got done laying all the cork flooring in the home.

Lock and Key Productions "gas man" - this guy drove all around making sure the generators and all the vehicles had enough gas for the week.

Drew is soooo excited to see all the people and see all the big trucks!

Twitter and Facebook have been great resources of getting information out to those interested in the build.

Lots of bikes parked outside the build... you can also take Valley Transit right to the corner of Elm and Lauden but check the bus schedule for times.

The people standing in this lawn and on the front porch are spectators - not any of them live at this house. The Extreme Home Makeover team has promised to come through after the crew and visitors have left to fix up the neighborhood lawns that are being trampled.

The crowd is just HUGE!

The celebrities are few and far between. Ty hasn't even been in town at all for the last few days. I guess his secret project woes come from him not being around to get them accomplished!

What a way to bring out the best in the community!

Extreme Makeover Home Edition - Who's that Bus?

Ever since "the bus" has rolled into the 'hood nothing has quite been the same... actually, it never will be. A deserving family was swept off their feet and the entire community has turned up to tear down, cheer on, and rebuild a statement home that says "dreams really do come true".

The attitude is infectious. Everyone walking by as a forward tilt of enthusiasm in their step. So many people signed up to volunteer that they are turning turning people away. I signed up to do a number of specialized tasks via the online volunteer contact sheet. But since there are no need for more volunteers in blue shirts I decided to do what I could in my own way.

For one I am doing a behind-the-scenes photo essay on this blog and we are planning on putting a giant twitter hashtag (#emhewi) in our front lawn. Another idea we had was to host a water bottle sale on our lawn and donate the money to the build. We are bringing goodies to the Extreme Security and NPD. But most of all just sharing a smile and a wave as onlookers walk by.

5 months old....

Tomorrow my baby girl is turning 5 months old. She is such a delight! I've had this past week to spend with her all alone with no big brother around. Emerson loves to smile and laugh... her new big thing is to blow spit bubbles and make baby pteranodon noises.

This week we also found out that our sweet baby girl will need to have surgery in a few months. In late June Emerie had a UTI infection that lead us to have a series of tests. A visit this week with a pediatric urologist explained that she has some crazy stuff going on. In a nut shell, she will end up having part of her right kidney removed as well as some other things that are going on with the tubes that drain to the bladder.

We are hoping this is just a little hiccup in our lives. The abnormality is neither hereditary nor caused by anything from the outside world. This is just how God initially wanted Emerson's cells to form inutero.

Right now we are praying for her and loving her. She is soooo awesome and we know she will pull through.

Maternity - Ardent style

It's been crazy here at Ardent Photography! Since I last blogged I've moved into my Milwaukee Boudoir studio, hired a part-time employee, got Emerson baptized and even found time for a short vacay with the family.

I don't usually do maternity portraits... but if a past client calls with news that they are expecting I cannot turn them away! Katie was one of my first sessions that I shot in my studio in Milwaukee. We shot part of the session in the studio and the second half on the streets and in a baby boutique in the Third Ward.

Their little guy is due any day now. I wish for them a quick and complication-free delivery!

My little baby girl is such an angel. Today she is three months old! She is sleeping upstairs in her bassinet and Drew is playing cars and trucks by himself - giving me the opportunity to catch up on some work.

People say she looks just like Drew... I can definitely see the similarities...

High Cliff State Park Engagement Session

Molly and Brian and I had a fantastic time during their engagement shoot at High Cliff State Park. This park has breathtaking views and is one of our favorite spots to go hiking. High Cliff is also the perfect place for an outdoor wedding ceremony in the Fox Cities. Just don't plan your wedding during the lake fly hatch... lake flies are known to be a nuisance and will stain your white wedding dress!

The park is a special place for the couple...Molly grew up down the road on Fire Lane 1 and Brian did an internship at the park. I bet they wouldn't have guessed they would find themselves strutting in front of a camera years later!

This couple is so in love and very easy to photograph. They booked my wedding package more than almost two years in advance! I'd say they put their wedding photography on the top of their priority list.

Winter Engagement - Wisconsin Wedding Photographer

Tonight I'm meeting with Cortney and Bryant to finalize details of their upcoming wedding. I thought it was ironic that it is so very warm outside today and their engagement shoot was the coldest I've ever shot. The session last December was something like negative 14 degrees with the windchill.

I decided to share some of these wintery engagement photos just to prove how beautiful a session can be even in the cold and snow. Luckily, we were able to take a few breaks from shooting amongst the frigid temps in a cute little coffee shop downtown Appleton.

Don't get me wrong... I love a warm summer day! I am actually looking forward a warm weekend - my last official weekend of maternity leave. I will be returning to work in the studio on June 1 - and I plan to announce some exciting news!!!

Whoa baby!!!

Life with baby Emmarie has been a bit rough these first few weeks. We battled a case of thrush, constant crying for 3.5+hours a day and acid reflux. We think we finally have the pretty little thing figured out - it makes me feel so good to know that a little bit of medicine can really ease the pain that she was feeling in her belly.

So now with a sleeping baby and a well-behaved 3.5 year old I am able to finally update my blog!

I am so excited to start my shooting season with Crystal and Greg's May 1st wedding tomorrow. The reception will host over 400 guests - the largest event I've ever been to!

Earlier this week I became an accomplished speaker with the Professional Photographers of Michigan. I presented a boudoir program and hands-on demonstration to a group of 50. I had a great time speaking and think I may have found a new niche for me! I'll blog more about the event with more details and photos over on the boudoir blog at www.unveiledportraits.com

Emmarie - 1 day old...

Being over due with a baby over 9 pounds is not fun. I was on a self-prescribed bed rest the week that I was overdue. It was really hard to move, sleep and pretty much do much of anything. The day I went into labor I decided that I had to just do something... get out of the house - anything.

Saturday we went and saw Alvin and the Chipmunks as a family. I was pretty emotional at the theatre thinking this might be the last time we are a threesome. I was really uncomfortable during the entire movie but found comfort in eating the yummy theatre popcorn.

That evening I was even more discouraged with sitting on the couch. I got up enough courage to go to a store to pick up a few things. I was scheduled for induction the following Monday and knew that if I didn't buy my last minute things I would never have another opportunity.

While at the store Andy texted me to take my time - I ended up going down almost every aisle! It was fun to wander and look at things... I bought Drew some big brother toys, some lip gloss and some baby necessities. A labor inducing shopping spree?

Later that night during Saturday Night Live I felt a small pop... when I stood up I realized that I my water had broken and that I would soon be feeling contractions. Within 10min I was feeling contractions about every 5 min. We called my midwife and mom. About 45min later we were on our way to the hospital.

We arrived at Mercy around 12:15am on Sunday, March 14. Luckily, the staff on the OB floor where aware of my quick deliveries and had already started filling the water of the birthing tub. Grandma and Auntie Trish arrived to help watch our 3 year old Drew - who by the way was a champ at the hospital in the middle of the night! When the tub had enough water in it I was able to enter... about 12:50am. Emerson was born about 20min later. It was an awesome experience. Even though she was 8 days late, her quick delivery made up for it all.

Now we are adjusting to life with a newborn baby. I just love having a little girl in my life. Drew is a terrific big brother... always wanting to hold, kiss and hug her. Andy is a great hubby - helping at night cooking dinner and with middle of the night diaper changes.

Well, my first due date was March 1 - but I guess my "official due date" was March 6. Either way I am overdue and patiently awaiting the birth of my sweet baby girl. It is so hard to sit and think it could happen at any moment.

During my wait I'm taking a bit of time for myself. I'm finishing up a few projects in the studio and getting closer to finishing her nursery. The image below is a collage of some of the things in her room. The theme is birdies surrounded in soft pink and buttercup yellow. I just love the look of stylized birds... I love that my grandfather made birdhouses almost everyday... I love the sounds I hear of the birds that live in the bushes on the side of our house... So I concepted this design. My mother created the custom bedding, I painted a 20x40 canvas and made the mobile, Andy re-did the electrical and all the hard labor in the room. Overall I'm so pleased and can't wait to show it to baby G2!

Special album offering for a 2009 couple

I offer many products and albums for my clients. Sometimes a couple will request a product that I don't have on my rate card. I am all about making my clients happy with images and albums that they will cherish as their first family heirloom and welcome any such requests.

When Tricia and Bob mentioned to me they wanted a traditional slip-in album I was a bit nervous. This was the type of album I received from my wedding photographer back in 2001. I was nervous because it was something I've never had to layout or order. You see, instead of designing an album with software and sending the files to a album book binder, the slip-in album needs to be constructed in a totally different way. Individual photographs are printed in various sizes, mats are ordered with different sized openings. Both are then hand assembled into a beautiful album that will definitely stand the test of time.

I am very proud of the way the album came together. I'm sure Tricia and Bob will be satisfied with their choice of a more traditional album for years to come!

This week was wedding week at TMJ4 and NBC26 on the Morning Blend. Members of the Collection were interviewed to present ideas and tips on choosing the right photographer for your wedding.

I was fortunate to participate on Tuesday's show... where we talked mainly about the importance of hiring a professional wedding photographer and how the Collection benefits brides planning weddings in Wisconsin. I was really nervous being on live tv! I don't know what came over me... but all-in-all it was a terrific experience.

Here are some shots from one of the wedding albums that I designed and delivered for Christmas 2009. It is so important for a bride and groom to have a finished professional representation from their wedding photographer. Whether you receive professional prints, canvas or an album - a finished piece of art is an important part of wedding coverage.

Today too many brides are only focused on the disk. Believe it or not, many brides never print images from their disks. They get caught up in life, family and their jobs... leaving them with nothing. Don't let this happen to you! Make sure your wedding photographer offers more than just a disk of your wedding images as part of your wedding photography package. I feel a long blog post coming on...

Back to the album.

This album is one of my Fine Art leather albums. Heidi and Dave opted to add a couple of features to make their album a bit more personalized... Their cover features top grain leather, silver imprinting and a cameo image. They also added their names to the spine...

This wedding album lays flat. The pages are hand mounted flush to the thick page. I have all of my albums with a split gutter ensuring the longevity of the book. This split page design ensures your book will not crack or peel in the gutter over the years.

We needed to squeeze in a bunch of images onto this spread. I usually recommend 2-3 images per page. When you are planning your album you will want to choose between 90 and 100 images for a 30 page album.

Each book is blind embossed with my logo on the back cover...

I'm sooo excited for this new year... before the clock strikes 12:00 I want to recap the wonderful adventures of 2009...

An Ardent Photography Photobooth

2009 was a terrific year for Ardent Photography... I started out the year shooting a wedding with Rachel of www.mergeweddings.com in Key West Florida. I flew to the island in a ridiculously small 8-seater airplane - in the co-pilot seat! I knew from that moment it was going to be a fantastic year!

In March I returned for my second straight year at the WPPI conference in Las Vegas, NV. I had a blast rooming with Molly Michel of m three studio and participating in classes and shootouts all week long. I bought my first "real" purse and necklace at Tiffany's... thank Molly for introducing me to nice things.

That Easter Andy and I took off to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for some along adult time. It was so very relaxing to have nothing to do besides sit and soak up the sun.

Shortly after our trip to Mexico I was hired to shoot my first destination wedding in the Dominican Republic. I brought along friend and photographer Miranda Zynda-Kneeland of Reminisce Photography to be my second shooter. It was a true honor and privilege to photograph Robin and Justin's wedding in Punta Cana.

My busy wedding schedule only allowed me to take a limited number of High School Seniors. This year I shot 10 sessions and had a blast photographing seniors from Xavier, Appleton East, North and West as well as a senior from Winneconne High Schools.

The summer's weddings brought lots of joyful moments in couples lives - and I loved shooting at many new locations. I especially loved shooting for Tracy and Tim in Pembine at the Four Season Resort and in Door County for Kirsten and Andrew at the family's private residence. Thank you to all of my wedding couples for making 2009 such a fantastic season!!!

The most joyful news of the summer had to be finding out I was pregnant with our second child - a GIRL!!! Drew will finally be a big brother - our due date is March 1, 2010. He wants to name her "Cook"... it's actually quite cute, we are calling her that for now... but we do have several cute girl names on our list!

In other business 2009 news... Unveiled Portraits - my boutique boudoir photography venture has been such a dream come true. I've shot more than 75 boudoir sessions total and in the month of October I raised $900 for my first ever Boudoir for Breast Cancer fund raiser with the help of matching funds from Invitation Consultants.

I was also featured in Wisconsin Bride Magazine as an expert in boudoir photography. I am beyond excited to continue photographing boudoir session in 2010 and continue to make Unveiled Portraits the best boudoir photography studio in the state of Wisconsin. Thank you to all of my wonderful ladies!!! Here's to a new year of loving your sexy-self just the way you are!!!

This year was also a great year for my family. We took our very first family vacation in December to Disney World. Seeing Disney through the eyes of a 3 year old was definitely magical.

Drew had the most fun on the Triceratops ride at Animal Kingdom and getting his face painted up like a dragon. For Andy and I, our favorite part of the trip was getting selected to see the fireworks show as VIP's at Epcot. We were the only people in the entire park that got to sit alongside the people who designed the show and just yards away from where the fireworks are shot off.

To help make way for lil' sister "Cook" Drew said goodbye to his toddler bed and hello to a big boy bed. He is doing great in the bed and hasn't fallen out yet... He also was bumped up in his swimming class at Swimtastic Swim School. He can swim all independently for 3 feet, he is also jumping into the pool and swims to the side - all by himself!

Andy caught the biggest fish at my brother Nic's bachelor party in Pickerel Lake, WI - the thing was a HUGE 42" and very very tasty ;-) He has also been very busy playing in his softball and pool leagues. We are very fortunate his company has been so successful this year and are looking forward to what the future holds. We are both so lucky to have careers we love and a family that we adore!

Tiffani and Scott planned a gorgeous wedding fit for a prince and a princess. Which is exactly the theme of their day. Tiffani chose a gown with a fitted bodice and long train, they had a castle cake and a fairytale book on every table at the reception.

Tiffani and her dad have a very special bond. They took dancing lessons and swirled around on the dance floor! It was so heartwarming to watch...

Dana and Tim had a fabulous Sunday wedding. The day started getting ready at their home on Doty Island. The couple had their first look in Doty Park and several photos at the Whiting Boathouse.

The day was perfect. Warm, sunny and gorgeous. The grounds at the Bridgewood were perfect for a wedding.

I had a ton of favorites from this wedding...

This darling little kitty kept it's eye on us while we were photographing the dress.

I love photographing the parents at every wedding. They are so proud of their children and are beaming with joy. Having parents this great deserves it's own photo!

I am excited to announce that I am an Associate Photographer with m three studio in Milwaukee!

I am so excited that Molly and I have come together in this business venture! Molly and I clicked the first time we met (no photography pun intended) and our photographic styles and backgrounds are incredibly similar. Since our first shoot out together in in the Spring of 2008 we have not only shot weddings together and traveled together but we have relied on each other in many aspects of our lives and our businesses.

What does all of this mean for you? Well, I've already booked a limited number of weddings for 2010 for Ardent Photography. But because I want to keep up with a higher level of shooting and not the high level of administration work (that goes along with all of those weddings) I will be shooting the remainder of my open 2010 dates with weddings through m three studio. Molly will be handling all of the communication with clients, the editing of your images (so you get that signature m three studio look), albums and prints, and I will be the one shooting your engagement session and wedding day.

At this time we have booked several weddings for 2010 under m three studio...

Important note: Ardent Photography will continue to book it's own weddings for 2011 and the future. I am currently accepting 2011 inquiries for Ardent Photography.

I am not closing Ardent Photography. I am not selling or merging Ardent Photography. I am still accepting wedding clients and still shooting weddings and boudoir.

For 2010 I decided to lower my work load a bit by not taking on 28+ weddings. My personal wedding goal for 2010 was to shoot 10 weddings. I felt like this is a great number to service my clients with exceptional quality and service. I've now booked my goal for 2010.

Since I will be spending the summer of 2010 shooting those 10 weddings and caring for and loving my new little baby girl (and 3 year old son...) I decided more time would be needed. This means less time during the week in meetings and less time editing lots and lots of images. This way I can still do what I love, which is shooting. I've decided to partner with m three studio for 2010 wedding season as an associate shooter in addition to the 10 weddings for Ardent Photogaraphy. This means I'm taking on a select number of weddings with m three studio... which I'm super excited about because I get to do all the creative fun stuff - shooting weddings!

I am currently accepting 2011 wedding inquiries and plan to accept up to 20 weddings commissions - so if you are newly engaged contact me soon! These open dates will go quickly!

I am excited to continue to shoot boutique boudoir sessions as Unveiled Portraits by Ardent Photography. Because this venture has been soooo successful for me I also want to keep a few open weekends during the summer months to host sessions.

Business has never been so great! I love all my clients and am excited to shoot their weddings and boudoir sessions in 2010.

Tracy & Tim :: Four Seasons Resort - Wisconsin

Tracy and Tim selected the Four Seasons Resort in Pembine, WI for their destination Wisconsin wedding. The resort is located in Northern Wisconsin on the Menomonie River which also serves as our border to Michigan. For some odd reason I automatically thought of a rustic place with lots of wood grain and maybe even a stuffed hunting trophy or two. I was excited to see how beautiful the resort was. Not only was the ceremony site well maintained and lovely... the building, the staff and even the pool was just awesome! I never doubted Tracy and Tim's impeccable taste... I knew they would do something beautiful and unique. But I really had no idea how beautiful everything would come together until I edited their wedding images. The grounds, the lighting... everything was just amazing.

To top of the physical beauty of the day was the free flowing emotions that brought so many to tears. I love it when a couple can put the stress of planning a wedding day aside and really enjoy every minute of the day... even if it is filled with happy tears.

It was a joy and an honor to photograph their wedding. Enough words... let's get to the amazing photos!!!

The light for the pre-ceremony shots was delightful! I love seeing the anticipation on their faces...

Walking your daughter down the aisle on her wedding day is emotional enough... at the Four Seasons the walk was extra long. But it served for the most perfect backdrop!

I am in love with Tim's reaction as Tracy and her father approach the ceremony. I love the way his smile is framed on the right photo.

The officiant of this ceremony really made the event memorable. She brought a personalization to the ceremony and even nick named the best man "sweet cheeks" and called him that when she was ready for the rings...

Here is an example of the perfect first kiss. Tim swept Tracy off of her feet and planted a wet one on her. What's even more special is that Tim constructed the arbor!

This is the one-lane 100 year old wood bridge that is the only access to Miscuano Island. There is a legend that the gangsters of the 1920's used this island as a hide out and removed wood planks from the bridge to deter and unwanted visitors!

The lighting all day was absolutely fabulous!!!

The cake was made to resemble the linear banding on Tracy's gown...

Erica and Eric's wedding party stopped for drinks at Anduzzi's before their wedding reception on Friday night. College Ave. was just revving up for it's annual "License to Cruise" car show the night before the famous Octoberfest.

There was a staff photographer from the Post Crescent taking shots... he saw me setting up the wedding party and took a few shots. I am actually surprised the image was published in the paper... I wish I could have sent them the kick butt shot I took!

I wanted to share a few images of me and my growing belly... and give you a bit of a status on how my pregnancy is going.

I am still feeling great! In fact, I have two weddings to shoot this weekend and my son's 3rd birthday party on Sunday... It should be a whirlwind of a weekend! My ultrasound is in a few weeks, we will find out if we are having a brother or a sister for big-bro Drew.

Side note: I was really sticking it out here, I'm only about 17 weeks in this image... These photos are going to be used in our Holiday cards and I wanted to look a bit farther along than I was. ;-)

This image was taken during our annual fall photo session. This year the Spottswoods took some amazing photos of my family. I'll post more of these fabulous pics closer to the Holidays.

Kirsten & Andrew :: August 15, 2009

Kirsten and Andrew are two busy and successful people who love art, traveling, their families and each other. When I first met them Kirsten was living in Atlanta and Andrew is in medical school in Boston. They decided to have their wedding at one of their favorite places... Andrew's lakeside cottage on Kangaroo Lake in Door County.

Every last thing was perfect. Kirsten designed all of the stationary and paper goods... including custom letterpress invitations. The guests could snuggle up in a purple pashmina or change into pink flip flops for the outdoor reception. There was even a surprise fireworks display overlooking the water.

I have so many favorite images from this wedding! Thank you so much to both Kirsten and Andrew and both of your families for welcoming Ardent Photography into your special day. I am honored to have documented your wedding day.

Kirsten and Andrew planted a Ginkgo tree in honor of their new lives together. The Ginkgo is a the tree known as a symbol of longevity, peace, and hope. I was able to obtain a few leaves from their Ginkgo tree to photograph the other symbols of their union, the rings.

I started my day driving to Milwaukee in pouring rain. The rain was falling so hard I could barely see the road. I was hoping that the rain would stop... I was looking forward to Naomi and Ryan's downtown Milwaukee wedding for quite a while.

Naomi is an Appleton native and Ryan is from Great Britain. The two met and fell in love, traveled the world and became husband and wife. They each have amazing style and personalities. Naomi is a graphic designer and just opened a custom invitation business, while Ryan is the man behind Milwaukee's own Quizmaster. You may remember their engagement session with guest shooters from Every Little Moment Photography in Utah...

Luckily the rain stopped 5 minutes before our coverage time started. We had to dodge a few rain drops in between wedding party photos at the Cudahy building and the Calatrava, but it was well worth it.

This image is special to me not only because the wedding party looks so fantastic but because both the old and the new art museum's are in the same photo. This wedding party is in essence bridging the old and the new...

The Wedding Horseshoe was a gift from Ryan's family sent as a good luck symbol. Because the horseshoe is "U" shaped, to retain the good luck forever it is essential that the horseshoe is hung by the ribbons and should not be turned upside down or else all the good luck of the marriage may fall out.

Naomi and Ryan rocked the reception at the Astor Hotel with a choreographed first dance. The dance was made even more exciting with the blowing of the HUGE fan that helped keep the hot dance floor cool.

A perfect shot to end the perfect evening. Congratulations Naomi and Ryan!!!

Our second baby! I'm excited to make this exciting news public! I am currently 15 weeks, and I am due on March 3, 2010, which happens to also be my husband's birth date. So far I'm doing great and have not been feeling any morning sickness.

We are really excited to be using a midwife again. If any of you are prego or thinking of becoming prego soon you should look into alternatives to OBGYN's. Our experience with a midwife is a bit more personal and they less likely to use drugs or any interventions. Another thing I am excited about is using my Hypnobirthing Techniques for a drug free delivery. Now I know what to expect and I know I can do it again.

Enough of the baby talk... what does this mean to you? Well, fortunately I don't have any weddings booked for 2010 until May. I am still booking weddings but I am taking a new approach... I will be able to share this exciting news very soon.

I am excited to continue to offer Unveiled Portraits on a monthly basis and up to 20 Senior sessions.

Tricia & Bob :: August 1, 2009

Tricia and Bob were married at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Neenah... literally across the street and down the block from my house. Tricia chose the church she grew up in for the ceremony and Bob was able to incorporate his family with the Green Bay Country Club.

The entire day was filled with love, laughter and even tears. It was a great pleasure and honor to have documented their wedding.

As an added bonus, I had Kate Grant as a second shooter. Kate is an associate photographer with Artists' Eyes Photography in Slinger, WI. The image of the fireworks below is one of Kate's images... she did a fantastic job!

I love it when couples chat during the ceremony... if you are a bride to be please never feel like you need to be still and quiet during your ceremony. Let your emotions out... hold hands, talk, wipe your new husband's tears. It not only allows you to enjoy your day but it makes for some amazing photographs!

The Green Bay Country Club was one of the most beautiful places I've photographed this summer.

The covered bridges on the golf course inspired me to try some dramatic lighting techniques. I hate to mention that about 2min before this photo was taken the poor groom had to rush off in a golf course to retrieve a camera that was accidentally left at the prior photo spot. No equipment was harmed or lost in the shooting of this fabulous wedding!

This best man speech was funny... wait - hilarious! It had the entire guest list in stitches. Just look at the groom covering his head with the linens!

Shortly after the first dance... a surprise waited for everyone on the balcony. I didn't even know what was going on! The sky lit up with fireworks... just for the bride and groom. I was able to get this shot of the guests watching the fireworks show, you can see Tricia and Bob on the far left side of the balcony.

I just LOVE this image. Everyone at this wedding had soooo much fun!!!

I wish I remember the song that made the mother of the bride dance like there was no tomorrow...

Maryanne & Mike :: Green Bay wedding

Maryanne and Mike planned a long distance wedding all the way from Seattle. I was fortunate enough to see them in Seattle when I did their engagement session last December. Maryanne and Mike swiped me up from the airport (I had a long layover on my way to my photo retreat to Hawaii) and we did a fly by night engagement session in Kerry Park. It was great! I was so excited to shoot their wedding.

Here are some of my favorites...

Another personal touch was Maryanne's mantilla veil which was her mother's from her wedding many years ago.

It was important for Maryanne to be married in her hometown church. The priest that married them was Maryanne's cousin, which made the entire ceremony personal and meaningful.

Most of the groomsmen were from the West Coast and they had a fun time making fun of our Wisconsin accents.

I love having the guys hassle the groom...

We were so lucky to find this old firehouse in Green Bay that matched the colors of their wedding...

Their first dance was a Salsa... wow - another great wedding full of fancy dancing!

Suzanne and Kodi - Green Bay Cathedral Wedding

Suzanne and Kodi are one of the most unique couples I've ever photographed. They met in Germany on World Youth Day, a Catholic youth festival. Of the 400,000 young people from over 200 countries they were able to meet and notice something special about one another. Suzanne was from Wisconsin and Kodi from Washington. They fell in love over the long distance and got engaged on their very first dinner date.

Their wedding was amazing - June 27 the day Catholics observe as Our Lady of Perpetual Hope. The high mass wedding at the Green Bay Cathedral was unlike anything I've witnessed. Everything except for the initial marriage rites were spoken and sung in Latin. The one and a half hour ceremony was filled with angelic hymns from the youth choir that Suzanne was a member of.

Their wedding party consisted of their large families and very close friends. All of the wedding party shots included everyone. It was a lot of fun despite the rain!

At the reception I was once again amazed with this couple! They, and all of their guests, were swing dancers! Every time I stepped near the dance floor I was worried about getting injured by a flying arm or leg from the guests dancing. The neatest part was not only where the adults swing dancing but even the kiddos! They had that dance floor packed the entire evening.
For Suzanne and Kodi's first dance (a waltz) they were silly-stringed by some little boys...

Shortly after their first dance all of the guests were treated to an Irish dance performance. The three Irish dancers came out in full costume and put on a great show!

Last weekend the Mustang Fillies reunited for a routine at the Milwaukee Iron game. For most of the girls in the group it has been 8+ years since they were on the dance team.

I was a member of the Mustang Fillies in 2000 and had a blast performing at the games. Here is a photo of me when I danced on the team.

I'm the second from the right.

Most of you may not know this... but I have been a dancer my entire life. I danced on the NCAA ranked dance team at UW-Milwaukee for four years, I was on the professional dance team for the Mustangs and then I taught dance for about 4 years.

Here is the video of my girls... I am so very proud that after all of these years they were able to pull off a half-time routine!

Fun Fact Friday - a real live fact for once!

Fact: In Greek culture, brides carry a lump of sugar in their wedding globe. It's supposed to bring sweetness to their married life.

There are a whole slew of crazy traditions out there. Some of my brides still put a real six pence in their shoes. Many of them still have something old, new, blue, borrowed.

Drew just loves fishing... he is only 2.5 years old and is hooked. Pardon the pun ;-) Just look at his face when he caught this whopper of a perch!

Michiel's Fox River Banquets

Michelle and Andy were unified in marriage on June 20, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Menasha. They became a family years before when they had their two lovely children. Their engagement lasted for over 5 years and they were truly ready to make it official.

Michelle arranged all of her flowers. She did a fabulous job with the bouquets, the boutineers and the centerpieces. She personally planned so many elements of their day... it was so nice to see it all come together.

Their church was stunning. The altar glistened with gold gilding and the stained glass windows glowed. One even revealed the name of my husband's great-great grandfather.

Michelle and Andy chose a unique design for their wedding cake. The cake's bottom layer was a bunt shape and as the cake grew in height the cake got smaller. Topped with a "piece of cake" and a "cupcake" anniversary tier. It was so funky and colorful and it tasted delicious.

Erica and Eric - Green Bay Engagement

I first met Erica and Eric last summer at a wedding I photographed at the North Shore Country Club. I spotted them as a great looking couple in love and I pulled them aside for a photo. It was only a few weeks later they became engaged and called me to photograph their wedding.

Their engagement was a hot 94 degrees and started off by their keys getting locked in the car! While we waited for a locksmith to come and save the day we did some photos... it was hard to loosen up at first because of the mishap but in the end Erica and Eric were able to laugh about the whole thing.

I am really looking forward to shooting their late September wedding. Mostly because my good friend Molly Michel of Mthree Studio will be second shooting for me. I also adore the venues the couple has chosen for their celebration. Their ceremony will be at the Country Chapel and their reception will be at Pullmans at Trolley Square.

Tiffani and Scott - Appleton Engagement

Tricia and Bob - Green Bay Engagement

The greenery at the Green Bay Botanical Garden is an ideal spot for a lovely engagement session. This has become one of my favorite parks to photograph sessions. Tricia and Bob were a blast to photograph... they were up for anything and had a lot of fun in front of the camera. They are sooo in love and it really shows in their images.

Shortly after this shot was taken, Bob spun Tricia right into the bush! It was sooo funny and I'm really sorry I wasn't able to capture the exact moment that he landed in the shrub...

Their love just shines in the way they relate to each other. I cannot wait to photograph their wedding reception at the Green Bay Country Club in August.

This was the first time I ever shot in the Children's Garden... there are several patina colored winged chairs in the garden. I had a vision of setting Tricia slightly in front of this chair to make it appear she was wearing angel wings. I just love the fun loving expression on her face as she looks into Bob's eyes.

This image was created shooting through one of the metal chairs. I love the way it frames the couple in the background.

I'm sooo looking forward to shooting this wedding. I am having Kate, a shooter with Artist's Eyes photography in Slinger second shoot for me. And an added bonus... the ceremony is right down the street from my house - I could literally walk.... hmmm, maybe I will and be green that day. I feel another blog post coming on ;-)

Elizabeth and Jay :: Married - De Pere, Wisconsin

Elizabeth and Jay were married in a beautiful heartfelt ceremony at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in De Pere, Wisconsin. They fell in love while living and working in Minnesota. The small and intimate wedding was a perfect contrast to their busy lives back home.

The weather didn't quite cooperate and it rained... wait it was pouring. I was determined to get outdoor photos and luckily there was the perfect spot on the campus at St. Norbert's College where we could take some shots and not get drenched with rain.

Beth and Jay had a small and intimate reception dinner at the F.K. Bemis Center on the St. Nobert Campus. The food was excellent and the party that took place into the night was sooo much fun.

Fun Fact Friday - photos of all your guests

Fact: There are several different ways to get images of all your guests at your wedding.

Of course there are the "table shots"... this is where the photographer runs around your reception and tries to catch all of the guests in between bites of their meal for a nice smiley photo. From a guests perspective... conversations stop and if they have been served food, they stop eating. From a photographer's perspective... I feel like I'm intruding as I ask guests for these shots. Many times half of the table needs to stand up behind 4 seated guests. But after getting all the tables completed I will have gotten a shot of every guest seated for dinner.

Another way of getting images of every person in attendance is to have multiple shooters. This is a wonderful way to approach the guests. One photographer can focus on candids and the other can be more responsible for some impromptu group shots. Having a second shooter at your wedding is a really good idea if you are having a large wedding. One photographer can cover your entire cocktail reception while the main photographer is with the wedding party doing the artistic shots. These photos are definately less contrived and usually they guests don't even realize they are being photographed - yielding natural body language.

A new and sort of trendy way of capturing guest photographs at your reception is the "out of the box" photo booth. This is a custom photo booth that is set up by your wedding photographer with lights, props and possibly a custom background. The best thing about having your wedding photographer do a custom photo booth is that there is a real live person taking the photos. The photographer can que your guests to do funny things and even recruit your guests to come and get their photos taken. A plain small 2 seater photo booth that you rent cannot do that.

At a recent wedding reception my Assistant Photographer, Natalie, and I ran a photo booth. It was sooo much fun! We had grandma's, kids, members of the wedding party and even the cake cutting take place in the "booth".
I really like the vintage/classic look of black and white images. With my photo booths I create the finished images as black and whites with sloppy borders with all 4 images on one sheet. The great thing about this is that the bride and groom can upgrade their photo booth to a package deal wich includes all the photos in a small album... a great way of remembering all the craziness and fun that went on during their wedding reception.

Heidi and Dave :: Married - Appleton, Wisconsin

Heidi and Dave are an amazing couple living and working in downtown Chicago. They love living in the big city but decided to have their wedding in Heidi's hometown of Appleton, Wisconsin.

Heidi is a very organized person... having just competed the Boston marathon proves that she is also hard working and dedicated. So when I arrived at her parents home and found a hand written note of things to remember on the wedding day I wasn't surprised. She must have gotten her skills from her mom who put together by hand over a hundred place cards that included a cut out of the Chicago skyline.

Heidi and Dave had custom invitations made as well as a custom wedding ring plate with their names and date on it. Their wedding colors where a cornflower blue and were incorporated in everything from the cocktail length bridesmaids dresses to the linens and chair bows. Everything was beautiful!

I had the pleasure of shooting with second photographer Mia Stevens. Mia was a great addition to the day... here is a link to her blog to see her upcoming post of her photos from this wedding. Mia and I are both members of the Collection, an amazing group of photographers who not only refer each other when we are booked... but also second shoot together, travel to conventions and even cover weddings in the case of an emergency.

Fun Fact Friday - A piece of family history

Fact: I love churches and their history....

Last weekend while shooting the ceremony in St. Mary's Church in Menasha, I noticed a particular stained glass window with a recognizable name. The window read "in memory of Mrs. John Oberweiser".

My husband's grandfather was named John Oberweiser but his grandmother May is still alive and well. And obviously the windows where crafted when the church was built in the late 1800's.

So I asked Andy's mom and dad who are genealogy buffs. We found out that the Mr. and Mrs. John Oberweiser are indeed relation and are my son's Great, Great, Great Grandparents.

Kim and Dan :: Married - Door County, WI

I met Kim and Dan for the first time in Milwaukee at Joey Buona's Pizzeria. We sat and chatted and clicked instantly. They were planning their Door County wedding as a bit of a destination retreat... a bit easier logistically than their original thoughts of getting married in Vegas.

You may remember this fun loving couple their engagement session that I photographed in March.

Kim and Dan's ceremony was at Stella Marris Parish in Egg Harbor. Faith is an important part of their lives and getting married in a church so beautiful and quaint made the ceremony even more memorable.

The highlight of the day was our personal tour guide/trolley driver. He drove us to Peninsula State Park for a woodsy shot stippled with blue forget-me-not flowers. Then he wisked us away to a lighthouse for more bridal party photos. Such amazing views of the bay!!!

For the romantic bride and groom photos the Door County Trolley driver brought us to an abandoned log cabin surrounded with crab apple trees that were in full bloom. The couple danced under the branches of one of the flowering trees... oh so romantic!

Upon arriving at their reception at The Landmark Resort in Egg Harbor we were welcomed to an intimate two-level reception. All of the tables were set in white linen on the lower floor and on the upper floor was cake and cocktails. The lighting in the room was magnificant!

After dinner the couple cut their cake and mingled with guests. Their first dance was loving and intimate.... with all of their friends and family witnessing the occasion.

Fun Fact Friday - get your diamond cleaned

Fact: Dirty rings just wont sparkle.
Make sure you have your rings professionally cleaned for their "close-up"...

It is amazing how many ring shots I do and the engagement ring is significantly less sparkly than the wedding band. Ladies, I'm sure the last thing on your mind the week of your wedding is getting your diamond cleaned. But it does make a difference in the macro photos I soooo love to take at every event.

It isn't that you are a dirty girl ;-) It is just that your normal everyday wear of your ring will get it a little grimy. Just think of the oils in our skin or our many beauty products.

You can invest in a ultrasonic cleaner for at home cleaning... this sort of cleaner combines ultrasonic waves and a special solution to remove all the grime. But after doing a bit of research online this may not be the best answer... According to www.diamondvues.com you can buy a simple isopropyl alcohol rubbing alcohol. Let your ring soak for a few minutes, then scrub with a brush then drop back in for another short scrub.

Bling!!!!

Jessica and Jerrod :: Married! May 23, 2009

I started the photo planning phase with Jessica and Jerrod over a year before the big day. Every last thing was perfect... we scouted the Paine Art Center and Jessica fell in love with the tulips and various blooms that appeared there in the spring. When spring 2009 rolled around we were praying that the tulips and crab apple blossoms would hold on until the 23rd of May... we were lucky! Many of the blooms were gorgeous and ready for photos.

Minutes before the processional rain drops began to fall... Even in the somewhat wet weather their outdoor ceremony at the Paine Art Center in Oshkosh was beautiful and romantic! I loved editing through the shots and seeing the best man hovering over the couple with a large black umbrella. In many of the ceremony shots below you can actually see the rain drops!

After the ceremony all the guests gathered in the front lawn of the mansion for a big group photo. I love the way this image captures everyone in attendance, luckily there was just a mist in the air at this time so we didn't need our umbrellas!

We had special access to certain areas inside the museum. Some of the shots we took inside the mansion are my favorite of the day. Especially the image of Jessica sitting in the grand staircase. Thank you to the staff at the Paine for escorting us around the property and for helping out so much!

Isn't so little anymore. In fact, he is turning 30, buying a house and getting married to an amazing girl all this year!

Nic and Jenny live in Michigan where they are working on their advanced degrees in Art Education and Law, respectively. Seeing them together back home in Wisconsin is rare... their 8+ hour drive from Michigan is quite long and draining on both the couple and their bank accounts.

But I am very proud of my lil' bro. Especially this week. He and Jenny are closing on their first home. This is no ordinary home... it is the home that my father grew up in. It was even built by our family, and now it will stay in the family.

Over Memorial Day weekend I was able to have a bit of fun with Nic and Jenny at our cottage in Pickerel Lake, WI. My mom wanted an innocent headshot to send to the local paper... but alas, I couldn't stop taking fabulous photos of them!

Their wedding is on October 3, 2009 at the beautiful and historic Old St. Joseph Church on the campus of St. Norbert College. Their reception will be at Lambeau Field's Atrium and their wedding photographer is my friend and colleague MiaS Photography in West Bend, WI.

Fun Fact Friday - What's with the guest book?

Fun Fact: I'm not really sure the exact origin of the guest book at weddings.
so I researched it just a bit...

It turns out that originally it was to start a listing addresses for thank you's and for the new couple's formal address book. It was of course to also document the people who attended your celebration... but is this really the case anymore? I'm sure if a couple needed an address of one of their guests wouldn't they already have it since they sent them an invite?

So what is the purpose of signing a guest book have today?

I see more than just plain lined guest books at weddings. This allows couples to customize their keepsake and it may also allow guests to write more than just their names. Allowing for even further customization and well wishes for the couple to cherish forever.

Some things I've seen are the classic photo and mat in frame. A ceramic bowl, puzzle pieces, poloraid photos signed and posted to a decorated board. I've seen a display with large willow branches where guests could hang well wishes... and a decorative birdcage where guests could toss in a piece of paper with a loving note for the bride and groom.

The possibilities are really endless....

One thing that I personally have fallen in love with is the custom photo guest book. A custom guest book will feature 20+ pages of photos from your engagement session. The images are carefully designed to allow space for guests to write. A guest book attendant is suggested to ensure that guests use the correct pen and that the messages are distributed throughout the book. Of course I love photography... but it is such a wonderful heirloom from your wedding. Easy enough to store on a shelf and intimate enough to sit down and read and bring back memories.

Baby Ava :: a newborn portrait

I was contacted by little Ava's grandma weeks before she was even born. She wanted a special and uniquely artistic gift to give to the parents-to-be. We were able to schedule the newborn session only 3 weeks after her birth.

I love photographing babies between 2 and 3 weeks of age. They are the perfect size to do many beautiful and artistic shots. This little girl just broke my heart with her beautiful lips.

Ava's father is in the Army and they thought it would be a nice touch to include his dog tags and jacket. The look on the baby's face is the cutest most expressive face I've seen!

Robin & Justin :: Ever After Punta Cana

Ever After Session my term for the celebratory portrait session after your wedding. More popularily known as Trash the Dress.

Robin and Justing had enough energy to get back into their wedding clothes for beach Ever After session just one day after their amazing Punta Cana wedding. I was able to experiment with some new lighting techniques as well as shooting in the ocean for the very first time. It was a blast!
